[Thank you. But he's afraid of drawing attention to what is obviously a very difficult concession for Cain so he just forges ahead.]

Up on deck. Fifteen minutes.

[He'll be the one looking out at the stars with a tight, thunderous expression on his face while he works his way through a cigarette.]

[He wastes no time getting there. He can hear things in the fog and he moves quickly, silently, until he can stand beside Cain.

He offers the gun in its holster and the knife in its sheath.]

Can you hear that?

[A distant, rasping, snarling groan]

[Cain stubs the cigarette out on the railing and flicks it over the side, then takes the two items without saying a word. He checks the knife first, shifting it slightly out of its sheath and testing the blade with the flat of his thumb before securing it under his belt.

The gun gets more scrutiny. He removes it from the holster and turns it over in his hands, checks the safety, the trigger, ammunition, then holds it up in a stance that makes his marksmanship skill clear even to the untrained eye as he focuses on the sight.

He can hear it. He's been hearing it.]

Yeah.

[Cain does not re-holster the gun.]

[Jesus watches him, but not intently. He's scanning the doorways, watching for movement.]

The only thing that kills them is a headshot.

[Cain just lets out a soft 'pft'.]

If that's too much for you, you better just stay behind me.

Are you offering to protect me?

[reargunner]

Don't push your luck, warden.

[He gestures slightly with the gun.]

This doesn't mean I'm gonna make things easier for you.

That's fine.

[Cain is armed and knows what he's doing with a weapon. It's a huge weight off Jesus's mind.]

But I'm going to be patrolling.

[He can feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing up.]

[He needs to go find Rosita.]
